November 26, 2011 — Words cannot begin to express how amazing my wife is. On my birthday my wife decided to surprise me for lunch. Before we left, she gave me my big birthday present … tickets to the Michigan vs. Ohio State game at Michigan Stadium in November! The last time I had been to a game versus the Buckeyes was back in 2003, which just so happened to be the 100th anniversary of the rivalry between the two schools. One of my best friends Neal and I had incredible seats thanks to a connection he had (Michigan won the 100th anniversary game, by the way).

When the time came for me to travel up to Ann Arbor, I made sure to update my vehicle with new car flags and blasted “Hail to the Victors” for nearly the entire trip. Since Brittany wanted me to enjoy the game with Neal, she stayed back in Toledo and went shopping with my Mom and sister. Neal and I wasted no time meeting up and finding a parking spot near campus. As we headed in to Michigan Stadium, there was a nervous excitement in the air, but I was confident that this would “be our year”…and thankfully, I was right! Michigan pulled off an incredible victory to beat the Buckeyes for the first time since 2003. If it wasn’t for Brittany’s thoughtful gift on my birthday, I wouldn’t have been there to witness the victory and I’m still in shock that I had the opportunity to cheer them to victory over Ohio State in Ann Arbor!

Final Score: Michigan 40, Ohio State 34

Here’s a picture of Neal and I as thousands of fans run on to the field to celebrate!

And here’s a video from the end of the game when we all knew the fat lady had sung!

This is a true tale of two guys who know how to make things happen. My best friend Mark and I left our wives shopping in downtown Chicago and spontaneously headed north towards Paul Ryan Stadium on the campus of Northwestern University to see the Wildcats take on the University of Michigan. When we arrived, we immediately started looking for ticket scalpers and had no trouble finding them. Unfortunately, tickets were selling extremely high ($100+) and we just couldn’t justify paying that much, so we wandered around hoping a deal would find us. Before we knew it, the game had started and there were no reasonably-priced tickets to be found.

Being the opportunists we are, Mark and I noticed a two couples bickering over who would get to use the one pair of tickets they had, and they ultimately settled on just crashing the gate and hoped to not get arrested. Low and behold, they walked up to the gate and just blew right past the ticket-takers and security, so Mark and I decided to take the same approach. With cash in hand, we offered to pay as we walked through the gate, but the security workers just stood there speechless and dumbfounded that we would have the nerve to walk right in. Within a matter of minutes, we were witnessing Michigan football!

Michigan chalked up another win after coming back from a halftime deficit, and I couldn’t have been happier with seeing the Wolverines earn the victory in Chicago.

Final Score: Michigan 42, Northwestern 24

September 10, 2011 — The first game in the Big House under lights will not soon be forgotten by the record-setting crowd in attendance. Although we didn’t have tickets since they were selling for several hundred dollars each on StubHub and Craigslist, Brittany and I made the trek up to Michigan Stadium after a quick visit with family in Toledo. We met up with one of my best friends (Neal) a couple hours before kickoff at one point decided to go look for some new Wolverines gear. Brittany overheard that purses were not allowed in the stadium, so she ran her purse back to the car and I got down to business while she was away. I wound up scoring a phenomenal deal (well below face value) on a pair of tickets in an end zone about 30 rows up. The crowd was electric and the game was incredible…Michigan won in the final seconds (here’s the video of the full game).

Final Score: Michigan 35, Notre Dame 31
